In 1949 Joe Oomkes and Sid DeJong formed Joe and Sid Gardeners. Joe and Sid were both European immigrants. They came ready to apply “old country” skills and work ethic. Sid had worked as a soil reclamation specialist in converting some of the North Sea soils to tillable acreage. Joe and Sid Gardeners performed many services in landscape management during those early years. Most of the work was centered around the East Grand Rapids area, but as the metropolitan area grew, so did the business.

In 1972, Sid’s son Ed became involved full-time in the business. In 1979 the name was changed to Tender Lawn Care. The new name reflected the company’s heart felt commitment to its residential and commercial clients, its employees and the environment. In 2012, the company remained family-owned as Ed's son, Jamin, became the new President. Jamin has surrounded himself with a team of talented, knowledgeable, and dedicated colleagues who share his commitment to quality service!

This puts Tender Lawn Care as one of the top green industry companies in West Michigan.
