Job Description

The Port Captain will act under the responsibility of Fleet Superintendent and assist him as required to operate the Fleet Units controlled by the Company in a safe and efficient manner with particular reference to routine Fleet operations. The key responsibilities of this role include inspections, utilization and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
  • Direct day to day administration of the fleet operation.
  • Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Ensure the readiness and seaworthiness of the fleet.
  • Plans, monitors, and appraises job results.
  • Conducts training and mentoring new joiners.
  • Provide operational and technical support to the crews on board speed boats and pilot boats.
  • Reports any down time to the fleet superintendent.
  • Ensure that all Fleet units is manned as per requirement.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet workshop to close all defects reports.
  • Adhere to SOPs and AD Ports HSEQ.
  • Ensure implementation of SOPs & RA. and full compliance by all crew.
  • Guide, direct and motivate subordinates to work effectively and perform to their best potential.

Qualifications

Educational and Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation, Marine Engineering or a relevant field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Valid Tug Master certificate issued by an approved Maritime Authority

Language Skills:

  • Excellent English. Arabic is an added advantage

Years of Experience:

  • A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in a similar role

Nature of Experience:

  • Relevant experience in the Main Port including berthing, un-berthing, towing all size and kind of vessels operating ASD and Conventional Propulsion systems.
  • Tug vessel Handling, Crew Management, Visual and Instrument Navigation, Application of radar, GPS and echo sounder in restricted visibility.
