Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, cakes, cookies, and other baked goods.
  • Follow recipes and instructions accurately to ensure consistency and quality of all items.
  • Ensure all pastry items are stored correctly and adhere to proper food safety standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and workstations, ensuring all tools and equipment are clean and organized.
  • Help with inventory management, including receiving deliveries, checking stock, and organizing ingredients.
  • Assist with decorating cakes, pastries, and desserts with attention to detail and presentation.
  • Monitor and maintain baking equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and reporting any issues to senior chefs.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations in the kitchen.
  • Assist with daily mise en place, ensuring the kitchen is ready for service.
  • Participate in training sessions and develop skills under the guidance of senior pastry chefs.
  • Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment, particularly in a pastry department, is desirable but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of pastry techniques, baking, and dessert preparation is an asset.
  • A passion for pastry and a desire to learn and grow in the culinary field.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, depending on the needs of the business.
  • Able to gracefully receive constructive criticism as well as effectively carry out orders.

Report Line & Communication

  • To assist the Head chef in ensuring that all culinary standards in that section comply with Hotel Policies and Procedures and Minimum Standards.
  • To maintain good working relationships with colleagues and all other departments.

  • Continuous learning through own IDP.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the superior.
