Purpose:

To research, monitor and source investment managers for the Emerging Markets Equity portfolio and contribute to the broader research effort of the department.


Main duties and responsibilities:

Idea Generation - Research

•Identify, research and propose managers in assigned geographic area.

•Use and further develop the quantitative screening tools used across all aspects of the team’s process,including early stage universe screening and returns-and-holdings based analyses on individual managers.

•Participate in the fund manager due diligence process including initial universe screening, preliminary universe desk work, introduction meetings, in-house meetings, on-site visits and preparation for Investment Committee discussions.

•Write research reports on existing and/or potential managers and update existing reports with any news or new developments, which could impact the department’s investment thesis.

•Prepare recommendations to appoint or terminate managers under direct responsibility.

•Assist in drafting of commercial and legal agreements.

•Draft and prepare all required documents for the Investment Committee and support and monitor the execution of legal and financial terms.

•Collaborate pro-actively alongside other Council's investment professionals to enhance the Council's idea generation and evaluation processes.


Portfolio Management

•Follow and analyse managers' performance and risk characteristics in various market conditions to make recommendations to Senior Management (Head/CIO/Executive Director).

•Participate in the manager allocation meetings/discussions; analyze and assess how changes will affect the portfolio's profile.

•Apply sensible rebalancing techniques considering relevant issues such as style returns, industry trends as well as regulatory and commercial developments.

•Support and monitor the timely implementation of investment decisions in collaboration with other departments and team members.


Monitoring

•Prepare and present weekly performance updates, monthly reports, semi-annual updates to the IC.

•Maintain in-depth coverage of all invested managers in assigned geographic area and ensure robust knowledge of all other strategies and new launches in said area.

•Monitor and assess managers' performance, produce and interpret attribution analysis and provide overall summaries to Senior Management.

•Bring to the team's attention any changes at the manager level such as key personnel changes, style drift or any material impact to the original investment thesis.

•Support all investment activities and ensure that they comply with the Council's investment guidelines.

•Carry out any other similar or related duties as assigned by line manager.
