The American University in the Emirates invites MLIS Master's Holder candidates to apply for the open position of Librarian for Reference/Cataloging.

Job Purpose

This Librarian is responsible for reference materials in a system that is easy to access and provide direct service to patrons, including staying up-to-date on the different types of references available.

Qualifications & Education

  • MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) Professional library qualification from an internationally recognized and accredited university.


Experience

  • 3 years experience in a university or research environment with cataloguing
  • Work experience in Higher Education institutions is preferable


Job Responsibilities

  • Reference Duties
  • Supervise and train staff and students to effectively search the Library catalogue, Internet and other electronic resources
  • Assisting patrons in the use of various reference sources, library resources and research methodologies.
  • Providing reference, readers' advisory, and referral services to patrons
  • Providing technical/reference support to staff
  • Performing manual and automated bibliographic searches
  • Planning and preparing bibliographies
  • Performing routines and procedures related to manual and automated interlibrary loans and other referral services
  • Maintaining familiarity with the collection, recommends materials to be added
  • Collecting data for statistical analysis and reports.
  • In coordination with the library manager ensure back-up plans are in place in case of Library Management System, RFID or photocopy equipment failures
  • Managing the collection development of the library
  • Assisting patrons for technical support.
  • Cataloging Duties
  • Catalog and classify print and non-print Arabic and English library materials by using international recognized standards, rules and best practices.
  • Provide subject analysis for all record headings of library materials.
  • Adhere to international standards for cataloging.
  • Oversee the book processing of library materials after cataloging.
  • Maintain authority records and perform necessary authority work in the bibliographic database.
  • Generate cataloging reports and resolve routine cataloging related problems.
  • Maintain professional awareness of changes to international cataloging standards
  • Pay attention to details and highly organized at work
  • Accomplish work in a timely, productive manner with minimal supervision
