Duties/Responsibilities


The consultant will be responsible for the supporting project leaders in origination and management of agri-finance advisory engagements in the North, West and Central Africa region. He/she should be capable of delivering substantial and measurable results related to increasing access to banking services for smallholder farmers and rural MSMEs, and to contributing to the implementation of the Agriculture for Food Security and Africa Agriculture Accelerator Programs (AAAP). He/she will also support the knowledge and learning agenda for banking in partnership with other products such as and Climate Finance.


The Consultant would support FIG AS/US deliver its targets, especially those related to signing new projects, client cash fees committed, effective project delivery and management and contributing to the AS team’s knowledge management initiatives. His/her specific responsibilities in each of these areas are as follows.


The STC will support the Agri-Finance Practice to manage advisory engagements with FIG clients and work to develop new client engagements in the region. He/she should be capable of managing and contributing to the delivery of substantial and measurable results in Africa. He/she will also support the knowledge and learning agenda and will be expected to contribute to tools and standards developed by the agri-finance team in NWC Africa.


Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  1. Keep abreast of the market intelligence and developments globally, conducting desk research and preparing initial reports with findings, graphs, etc.
  2. Prepare various project documents, such as project management reports, project approval reports, Monitoring & Evaluation reports in line with established IFC procedures
  3. Support project managers/team leaders in the drafting and preparation of various project legal agreements, such as Project Services Agreements, MOUs, etc.
  4. Assist in identifying and selecting short-term consultants/ firms when consultants are sub-contracted on specific components of the advisory mandates and collaborating with them to deliver high impact client engagements.
  5. Monitor project KPI, budget and development impact and produce internal reports as per IFC project governance.
  6. Monitoring and analysing project budgets, where necessary
  7. Assist in planning, designing and organizing conferences, trainings, workshops and seminars.
  8. Collaborate with project team and senior consultants to carry out specific tasks including desk reviews, data analysis, financial projections, preparation of notes, taking minutes of meetings, writing memoranda, preparation of briefs and presentations
  9. Research and writing on specific topics of relevance to Africa agrifinance sector
  10. Assisting with the drafting/development of templates and standardized solutions for the key technical topics mentioned above
  11. Work with project teams on capturing lessons learned from projects in the region
  12. Support team logistics from time to time
  13. Support integrity and due diligence analysis


Deliverables


  • Project document development (IPs, CNs, PSRs, etc.)
  • Budget support and analysis
  • TORs, and contracting consultants
  • Research and analysis of project portfolio and reporting to middle office.
  • Extract lessons learned.
  • Desk reviews, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Assistance with planning meetings, workshops and/ or trainings
  • Project monitoring & evaluation – data collection, analysis, etc.


Timeline


The consultant is expected to support the team from August 2024 – June 30, 2025. Contract is renewable on a yearly basis thereafter.


Level of Effort


  • On a trial basis, the LOE for this assignment is up to a maximum of 30 days.
  • Should the STC perform well, the assignment will grow into up to 110 days per year.
  • Any expenses as flight, per diem, hotel, visa fee, transportation to and from airport and clients will be covered by IFC and reimbursed upon the submission of the receipts.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree and (ideally) 1-3 years of relevant experience in the region, preferably working in a research or analyst role with similar donor agencies/development finance institutions. Graduate degree is desirable.
  • Experience working on similar topics (private sector, housing, financial sector, microfinance) as well as on market research, surveys, data analysis, etc.);
  • Interest and/or commitment to social and economic development, and microfinance in particular (desirable)
  • Strong writing skills (particularly in English)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software particularly power point and excel including tabulating and analyzing data, and presenting effectively in graphs/charts, etc.
  • Commitment to development work and IFC mission
  • Strong organizational, research and communications skills;
  • Fluency in English and/ or French; proficiency in Arabic preferred.
  • Willingness to travel
