Job summary:

An Ultrasound Technician helps doctors and other health professionals diagnose patients ailments. He or

she operates special equipment that uses high-frequency sound waves to record images of internal

organs. Other job titles for this occupation include ultrasound tech, diagnostic medical sonographer, or

sonographer.

Ultrasound Technicians work directly with patients and physicians. Areas of speciality must include

abdomen and thyroid, but may also include obstetric and gynecology and cardiac.

Responsibilities:

The ultrasound technician job requires candidates to be able to perform duties that include

the following:

  • Prepare the exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct examinations
  • Recognize and record the appropriate anatomy and pathology using sonographic equipment
  • Care properly for sonography equipment and report equipment failure
  • Write reports based upon the scan results and completion
  • Alert appropriate medical staff of any abnormalities that need immediate attention
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects, and display flexibility in a fast-paced work environment
  • Display good work ethic and friendly and cheerful disposition
  • Maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality
  • Pursue professional development for the continual improvement of patient care
  • Assist radiologists as needed with ultrasound-guided biopsies and vascular ultrasound procedures
  • Understand, follow and support all hospital infection control programs

Qualifications:

  • BS degree or Diploma holder in Radiology
  • Holds a DHA practice license
  • Fluent in English, a second language is an advantage
  • Advantage: Experience in a JCIA accredited clinic/ hospital
  • Skill in fine, precise manipulation of equipment and materials
  • Display good work ethic and friendly and cheerful disposition
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment while working with high-volume/high-expectation patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Able to present information in a thorough, systematic fashion and perform follow-up routinely
  • Ability to manage and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize tasks based on degree of urgency

  • Adhere to policies, guidelines and procedures pertaining to the protection of information assets.
  • Follow all specific policies, guidelines and procedures associated with access privileges for EMR and other Patient Information duties.
