The global Knowledge Department keeps W&C at the forefront of today’s changing legal landscape. We help lawyers practice smarter as they deliver world-class client service. Our work ranges from helping the Firm leverage the latest legal, client and market knowledge to providing front-line support for legal teams in their client work.
We have a broad platform: Professional Support, Research & Market Intelligence, and Practice Technology. Our professionals use information management, research, training and technical solutions to help lawyers work efficiently and collaboratively. The goal is to make sure the Firm’s shared knowledge is leveraged for the benefit of our clients
Position Summary
The Researcher in our Cairo office collaborates with colleagues across the global Research & Market Intelligence team to provide substantive research and insight for client work and business development efforts, demonstrating specialized knowledge and research expertise to support the Cairo office and global practices. The Researcher participates in broader department strategic initiatives and may lead project teams, train and mentor colleagues, and triage research requests as needed. Expectations for the role include providing strategic research related to markets, industries, and competitors, as well as coordinating and conducting lawyer training on research tools and methodology. Proficiency in both English and Arabic (written and spoken) is required. French or Russian language skills are an added advantage, although not mandatory.
Duties And Accountabilities1
- Perform substantive research to support local and global practices.
- Conduct onboarding for new lawyers and Business Services team members, plus additional training where necessary.
- Use current awareness tools such as Vable to create newsletters and alerts for ongoing monitoring of clients, industries, and events.
- Provide research content for the Middle East intranet sites.
- Ensure that Research & Market Intelligence services are effectively promoted throughout the Cairo office and Middle East region.
- Responsible for the general upkeep of the local library space and collection (if applicable).
- Participate in evaluating and developing the research collection and piloting new services.
- Ensure continuing professional development and stay abreast of the legal industry.
- Provide crosstraining and mentoring to colleagues in other offices.
- Triage ready-reference requests to Manila team members, where appropriate, while focusing on more complex, high-level queries.
- Work with the procurement team on budgeting and acquisition requests.
- Particiate in various internal projects as requested by supervisors.
- Collaborate with other Business Development, Marketing, and Knowledge teams to provide support to the Middle East offices.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, law degree or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred, plus five or more years of research experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Previous experience working in a law firm or other professional services firm, or other legal or government setting preferred.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic (written and spoken) is required. French or Russian language skills are an added advantage, although not mandatory.
- Specialized knowledge and experience in Middle East office practice areas.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to analyze problems logically and methodically and to absorb and synthesize large amounts of information into actionable intelligence.
- Expert knowledge of key legal and corporate-focused databases and tools is preferred, including Lexis, Westlaw, Capital IQ, and Pitchbook among others.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with all levels of personnel and to succeed in a teamwork environment.
- Ability to follow complex instructions with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of a strong client service focus, superior written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build productive relationships with internal and external clients.

Location & Reporting
- This role is based in the Cairo office.
- This role reports to the Manager, Research & Market Intelligence - EMEA.
