The position

BACKGROUND

The Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF) is an Egyptian non-profit organization established in 1991 under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity. OHF is the implementation agency for the Aga Khan Foundation, Egypt and is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network of organizations and was founded by Om Habibeh Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan to contribute to and support local communities in the governorate of Aswan in areas including health care, education, and providing income for deprived communities through long-term development activities. OHF works in the following areas: Continuing Education, Civil Society, Agriculture and Food Security, Economic Inclusion, Women Empowerment, and Early Childhood Development.

OHF will implement a UNICEF funded project which is a collaborative and sustainable approach to support learning continuity for Sudanese school age children in Aswan Government. The project will cover six districts in Aswan: Aswan City, Abu Simbel, Edfu, Daraw, Kom Ombo, and Nasr El Nuba.

Since April 2023, a total of 190,000 people, including 40% children, have crossed the borders from Sudan to Egypt. Most of the influx of refugees are displaced Sudanese persons and over 5000 from third-country nationals (TCNs). Once in Egypt, the displaced are moving towards Aswan, Greater Cairo, Alexandria, and other cities where many have extended families and existing community support networks.

The Project’s aim is to ensure that displaced children are provided with access to education through preparation of learning spaces with educational material/equipment to accommodate different learning modalities that align with children's needs, capacity building of teachers to implement the learning recovery programme, through catch-up programs to help children get back on track with their education as well as to a form of normalcy. It is also important to provide psychosocial support to help children cope with the trauma of exposure to violence and stress of displacement.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist the Project Manager in aligning with UNICEF Egypt Sudan emergency response plan and the core commitments for children.
  • Participate with the CSOs in selecting the teachers and volunteers.
  • Ensure that the furniture and equipment and educational tools are handed in the learning centers.
  • Provide technical support to the volunteers to implement the activities (summer camps, storytelling …etc.).
  • Ensure that there is an integration between the Aswanees and Sudanese in all of activities.
  • Support the PM in following a coordinated and integrated approach to address the urgent education needs of the new Sudanese children in Aswan Governorate.
  • Help in mapping the Sudanese school age children in Aswan governorate to indicate their numbers, age groups, gender, nationalities, academic grade, available official documents, family status, and disability.
  • Assist in conducting needs assessment to learning spaces/facilities to identify the capacity gaps to be covered by the project in terms of learning materials and equipment that will facilitate application of different learning modalities to address children's needs.
  • Assist in building the capacity of teachers to assess the children's learning loss and implement the learning recovery project.
  • Assist in building the capacity of local stakeholders, including teachers and education officials, to support the project’s activities and ensure the sustainability of the project.
  • Assist in providing capacity-building activities to teachers and educators as part of the learning recovery programme to address the learning needs of Sudanese refugees.
  • Work with different CSOs in Aswan for all the community engagement and capacity building activities.
  • Implement the project’s activities in partnership with the technical support of the consultants and experts.

The requirements

Education

REQUIRED QULAIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field such as: education, social work, child development.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in the field of ECD.
  • Experience in working with refugees.
  • Experience in working with children, and people with disabilities.
  • At least 2-3 years relevant experience working in community projects.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good English and Arabic language skills: oral and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple tasks, demands and deadlines with a positive attitude.
  • Integrity, commitment, and dedication.

Working Conditions

Hybrid work that is a blend of in-office and field visits.
