Pediatric Hematology Oncologist

We are looking for a caring and compassionate pediatric oncologist to diagnose, care for, and treat children with cancer or blood disorders. The pediatric oncologist is responsible for treating infant, child, and adolescent patients and, as such, may deal with fewer cancer cases than an oncologist and more hematologic disorders, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle-cell anemia. The pediatric oncologist will typically treat cancer and blood disorders more with medications and chemotherapy than with surgery and radiation therapy.

To be a successful pediatric oncologist, you should be caring and compassionate towards children, and be hardworking and dedicated. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Pediatric Oncologist Responsibilities:

• Examining patients and ordering diagnostic tests.
• Analyzing patient symptoms and test results and making a diagnosis.
• Prescribing treatments, developing treatment plans, and coordinating with other doctors to treat or manage side effects.
• Using various methods of treatment, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, stem cell transplants, radiation therapy, and surgery.
• Leading a treatment team of other physicians and healthcare workers.
• Counseling patients and family members and promoting the well-being of patients and their long-term survival.
• Maintaining patient records.
• Conducting clinical, transitional, and science-based research in order to remain up to date and to find new ways to treat cancer and blood disorders that possibly lead to a cure.
