We are seeking an experienced Estimation Engineer for our client’s construction and steel fabrication projects in Sharjah, UAE. The Estimation Engineer will be responsible for managing the tendering process, ensuring accurate cost estimation, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with tender requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in market knowledge, project planning, and team management, as well as extensive experience with steel construction and fabrication.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Market Knowledge

  • Stay updated with market trends, material costs, and construction practices.
  • Conduct market research to support cost estimation and tendering processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Understand local regulations, codes, and standards impacting steel fabrication and erection works.

2. Project Obligations & Planning

  • Develop detailed cost estimates and budgets by studying project plans, specifications, and other relevant documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure that cost estimates align with project objectives and timelines.
  • Evaluate design changes, additions, or site-specific requirements, and adjust project estimates accordingly.
  • Plan and manage the tendering process to ensure deadlines are met and all necessary documentation is completed accurately.

3. Tender Documentation Management

  • Prepare and submit tender proposals in response to client Invitation to Tender (ITT) requirements.
  • Ensure tender submissions include all necessary documentation and comply with client and regulatory specifications.
  • Review and interpret system drawings, identifying discrepancies and raising queries to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare draft tender documents, ensuring all systems, components, and necessary technical details are included.
  • Maintain records and manage updates to cost keys, price masters, and other pricing tools.

4. Client, Main Contractor & In-House Coordination

  • Coordinate with clients, main contractors, and in-house teams (engineering, project, and fabrication) to gather and verify all necessary information for tender submissions.
  • Liaise with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive bids by specifying materials and negotiating prices.
  • Collaborate with project and fabrication teams to assess the impact of design changes and ensure project specifications are met.
  • Provide technical support and expert advice to clients and stakeholders throughout the tender process.

5. Team Management

  • Lead and guide the tendering team in preparing accurate, detailed cost estimates.
  • Work closely with various departments to ensure cross-functional collaboration during the tendering process.
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment to meet tendering goals and client expectations.

Job Summary (Major Functions of the Position):

  • Manage the day-to-day tendering process, ensuring compliance with company policies and client requirements.
  • Gather and analyze project information, ensuring accurate preparation of construction budgets and cost projections.
  • Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors, negotiating prices and maintaining cost consistency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and client specifications in tender documentation.
  • Assess the impact of design changes, resolving cost discrepancies, and ensuring timely submission of tenders.
  • Prepare compliance documentation and ensure all project outputs meet required standards and codes.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and building networks.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Master of Engineering, or Diploma in a relevant field.
  • Experience: 6 to 10 years of experience in estimation, tendering, and execution in steel construction and fabrication.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication and erection works.
    • Proven experience in preparing tender documents, cost estimation, and managing vendor/subcontractor relationships.
