Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:
The Medical Affairs Manager will be responsible for the medical & clinical aspects of GSK Gulf within
the assigned Therapy Area/s (including oncology, onco-hematology)
- To foster the ethical and scientific image of GlaxoSmithKline as a leading pharmaceutical
company.
- To be accountable for leading external scientific/clinical exchange with the scientific and
medical community and to bring the medical voice of the customer back into the organization
(this includes 1:1 interactions, advisory boards, medical education, congress presentations,
publications and congress sponsorships).
- To work with the Medical team, the cross-functional teams, and global teams providing
scientific/clinical expertise, advice on GSK products in the market by developing and
implementing a local, integrated medical strategy and customer engagement plans.
Accountability
General:
- Provide expert scientific product and disease knowledge and trusted medical leadership to GSK
and to above country Medical Networks
- Build and leverage high quality scientific knowledge and capability expertise.
- Demonstrate leadership & provide guidance for GSK in the assigned Therapy Area(s) from a
scientific perspective.
- Work with different stakeholders to ensure that all relevant planning factors and impacts are
assessed in development, pre-launch, launch and life cycle management strategies within the
scope of therapy area(s) responsibility.
Clinical Operations:
- Identify gaps that need Key Evidence Generation studies as effectiveness studies, health
outcome studies and health economic studies.
- Plan and manage Phase IIIb/IV clinical trials, Collaborative Research Trials (ISS) &
Observational studies in accordance with GCP guidelines & company relevant SOP’s.
- Identify opportunities to engage GSK in R&D studies within the scope of therapy area
responsibility
- Provide company with relevant clinical data in line with the company’s scientific & commercial
objectives, within guidelines of Good Clinical Practice, local laws & regulations.
Scientific Engagements and External Experts Interactions:
- Lead, develop and implement a local Medical Strategic Plan for medicines within the assigned
therapy area including:
- Identifying areas of research interest and developing timely local study protocols which
advance the scientific understanding of our medications
- Identifying areas of medical education interest
- Identifying advisory board/1:1 interaction needs, and leading their implementation and
follow-up
- Ensuring alignment with commercial strategic planning
- Managing research budget and budget forecasting processes for assigned products and
therapy areas
- Deliver external engagement excellence characterized by timely, responsible and responsive interactions with the external medical and scientific community to achieve a two-way trusted scientific partnership
- Accountable for regular review and analysis of data analytics and medical voice of customer to derive insights and develop action plans to deliver on the medical strategy
- Works in partnership with key stakeholders as well as matrix bodies, to ensure provision of clinical & medical affairs activities to support internal decisions making during product development, commercialization, and life cycle management within the scope of assigned Therapy Area(s).
- Interaction with Health Authorities to support & accelerate registration process and hence faster market penetration within the scope of assigned therapy area(s) responsibility.
- Provide scientific strategic input to the regulatory and reimbursement teams to allow GSK to demonstrate the value of GSK products to achieve optimal product labeling, reimbursement outcomes and patient access. Medical Governance and Medical Information:
- Review and approve promotional and non-promotional materials/activities in accordance with local and global SOPs.
- Respond to medical scientific inquiries from customers & field force, evaluation of scientific literature, support sales force with scientific argumentation for GSK marketed products.
- Respond to medical information requests regarding GSK products from HCPs by utilizing the GSK Corporate Medical Information Request Process and Procedure.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Medical Doctor or Pharmacy Degree
- Industry Medical Affairs experience is a must.
- Broad range of experiences, working in pharmaceutical industry, managed care, academic
institutions, hospital setting, or healthcare consulting environment.
- Ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners including Key External
Experts, regional and global stakeholders.
- Strong ability to leverage scientific knowledge within the assigned therapeutic area.
- Strong ability to develop timely and meaningful research protocols and study reports.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a strategic partner with commercial functions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Solid understanding of healthcare environment in Gulf countries
- In-depth understanding of medical affairs and ways of working
- Understanding of key performance indicators in medical affairs
- People management experience is an advantage
- Strong project management skills
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Fluency in English, Arabic language is an advantage.
