The American University in the Emirates (AUE) is seeking motivated and qualified candidates for Teaching Assistant (TA) positions in the College of Medicine and Health Science. The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support faculty members in teaching and research activities across the following specializations:
- Anatomy
- Physiology
- Biology
- Histology
- Physics
- Biochemstry

Job Purpose
Responsible to provide students with professional expertise in teaching, assessing student work, academic advising, participating in administrative and committee activities, professional service, and community service.
Qualifications & Education
- A Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physiology, or any related medical science discipline; OR
- Applicants who have passed USMLE Part 1 and 2, or the Canadian Medical Licensing Exam, will be preferred.
Experience
- Prior experience in teaching, tutoring, or working in a laboratory setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in research projects during their academic program is considered valuable.
Skills / Training / Knowledge
- Strong foundational knowledge in the relevant medical science specialization.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner to students.
- Proficiency in using technology for online learning platforms, laboratory software, and academic tools.

Job Description
- Collaborate closely with faculty members to prepare lecture materials, including PowerPoint slides, handouts, and multimedia resources.
- Help set up and organize laboratory experiments or practical demonstrations before class.
- Assist during lectures and tutorials by addressing student questions, ensuring students grasp key concepts, and facilitating small group discussions when needed.
- Deliver tutorials or review sessions on specific topics under faculty supervision to reinforce core medical concepts for students.
- Hold regular office hours to provide individual or group tutoring, offering additional explanations on complex medical topics, such as anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, or physiology.
- Assist students in developing effective study strategies for medical subjects, including how to approach case studies and clinical scenarios.
- Offer guidance on understanding and applying theoretical concepts to real-world clinical situations, ensuring that students are prepared for exams and practical assessments.
- Assist in grading quizzes, midterms, final exams, and lab reports while ensuring consistency and fairness in assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback on assignments and lab reports, helping students understand their mistakes and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with faculty to ensure grading standards align with learning outcomes and objectives for each course.
- Ensure that all necessary lab materials and equipment are available and in proper working condition before laboratory sessions.
- Assist students during practical sessions by explaining lab procedures and methodologies, ensuring proper use of equipment such as microscopes, anatomical models, and diagnostic tools.
- Monitor student safety and adherence to safety protocols, especially in clinical and anatomy labs where handling biological specimens, chemicals, or medical instruments is required.
- Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during lab work, offering additional guidance to students who need help with specific lab techniques.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of data for ongoing research projects, including gathering patient data (if applicable), organizing clinical trials, or managing lab results.
- Help in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, or research proposals, ensuring alignment with academic standards.
- Collaborate on creating educational content for research-based seminars or workshops organized by the faculty.
- Participate in faculty meetings and discussions regarding curriculum planning, course structure, and student progress assessments.
- Help organize departmental events such as guest lectures, symposiums, and medical workshops.
- Assist with maintaining student records, organizing course syllabi, and managing course-related paperwork.
- Provide administrative support for accreditation and program evaluation processes when needed.
- Serve as a liaison between students and faculty, relaying important announcements, deadlines, and other academic information.
- Encourage student participation in class discussions, laboratory sessions, and extracurricular academic activities such as medical clubs or research groups.
- Help cultivate a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable seeking help and participating actively in their learning process.
- Promote peer learning and collaboration among students by organizing study groups or facilitating peer-review activities for assignments and lab work.
