New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Director of Administration, Global Education reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost of Global Education and Outreach.
As a critical member of the administrative leadership of Global Education, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing and implementing the activities that support the strategy of Global Education. This includes planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor/Vice Provost for Global Education and Outreach, which provides academic and administrative leadership for programs of global education in the areas of semester abroad visiting student programs, J-Term in Abu Dhabi and abroad, regional academic seminars, community-based learning, summer experiential learning, and the Office of Social Responsibility.
Skilled and experienced in academic administration, they are responsible for developing the Annual Planning Budget APB) and Academic and Administrative Staffing Plan across office areas, overseeing the Global Education operating budget of $500K, managing the deliverables for J-Term and summer faculty and instructor selection, deployment, orientation, and support; organizing the content and event planning of Global Education conferences, workshops, and VIP visits; producing and managing institutional research, area data, and reporting; supports the Associate Vice Chancellor/Vice Provost in planning and implementing new curricular programs and initiatives in the UAE and abroad; organizing and managing the MOU and partnership agreements of the office. Responsible for organizing and supervising the searches for vacant staff positions; overseeing staff development, learning plans, and performance review processes; leading cross-program teams in office-wide strategic administrative initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Planning and Administration
- Responsible for developing reports and managing the Office’s institutional research and data, working closely with the Registrar, faculty, Provost Office, and Academic HR to ensure accurate reporting and provide feedback to improve systems
- Support curricular planning, development, management, and updates
- Lead the planning of the academic year-long calendar and activities
- Develop and implement systems/ repositories for class syllabi, faculty lists, teaching evaluations, textbook orders, etc., which are also necessary for faculty reviews and accreditation
- Lead the Office staff in developing/maintaining archival procedures for the proper, privacy-compliant storage and access to information
- Organize the Undergraduate Education Workstream, the Global Site-Specific Advisory Committees, and the Global Education Faculty Advisory Committee to ensure excellent record keeping, decision flows, and follow-through
- Support the AVC/VP with developing and curating the content of academic conferences, including the Global Curriculum Conference, Site Directors Conference, Gulf Intelligence Industry Academe Workshop, Summit on Innovation and Leadership, MLK Day with Global Liberal Studies, and academic retreats
Operations
- Lead all operational aspects of running the Office and manage operational projects, including core project elements, deliverable timelines, resources, and funding
- Responsible for recruiting, building, and managing the necessary teams to deliver strategic projects supporting the University’s mission successfully
- Develop and implement risk management strategies, governance, quality assurance, issue resolution, reporting and timelines
- Organize and lead regular stakeholder meetings to provide and gather feedback, highlight risks, and resolve any issues
Area Research | Researcher Planning, Recruitment, and Support
- Manage the delivery of the Office’s Research Program through researcher hiring and support
- Support the development and implementation of the Provost’s Global Faculty Symposium, the Community-engaged Learning Research Initiative, the IDI, and the Global Identities’ longitudinal survey, and course evaluation results
- Manage the Office’s reporting on societal and educational impact
Office Outreach Support
- Collaborate with external relations to upgrade messaging, web presence, and publications related to academic programs
- Liaise with the Career Development Center on matters related to alumni and internships and with the Office of Undergraduate Research on matters related to undergraduate research
Financial Management
- Lead the development of the unit's annual operating budget in collaboration with the Office of Fiscal Affairs
- Responsible for overseeing the unit’s operating budget, including review and approval of day-to-day transactions
- Responsible for developing internal financial reports to inform and support leadership decisions within the unit
- Work closely with Provost Office Finance, University Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Procurement on implementing and realizing Office financial plans and requirements, contracts, and MOUs
- Direct the Office’s financial activities; and provide appropriate authorizations and approvals
- Responsible for the authority, management, and reporting of budget as well as all office financial planning and analysis
Office Administration
- Direct and manage the administrative staff in the AVC/VPs Office to ensure delivery of all administrative requirements for the Office and lead cross-program initiatives such as IDBEA, sustainability, and AI-assisted administration
- Responsible for staff organizational planning and recruitment; staff performance and probationary reviews; team mentoring; and development and training
- Work in partnership with the senior leaders of the Global Education programs to ensure the continued expansion, collaboration, and delivery of the Strategic Academic Plan and student success initiatives
Faculty Recruitment and Faculty Support
- Manage and direct the recruitment and onboarding of over one hundred J-Term and summer faculty and instructors
- Advise faculty in areas including special needs, workplace accommodations, and grievances and provide direction accordingly
- Liaise with the Office of Academic Appointments to stay abreast of policies that pertain to faculty recruitment and retention

Required Experience:
- 7 years or more experience in comparable positions, with a record of advancement and growth at progressively more responsible levels, preferably in higher education or in an education-related position within an established international organization or governmental body operating in the U.A.E.
- Experience working with institutions of multi-national, multi-cultural nature
- Excellent organizational ability to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines while maintaining consistent accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent quantitative skills with experience in preparing reports that are analytical
- Supervisory ability, independent initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team
- The capacity to undertake multiple, ongoing assignments and complete them in a timely way
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of constituents (faculty, staff, students, community organizations, businesses) in both oral and written forms
- Personal presence that can independently and professionally interact with and represent the Office to visiting scholars, faculty candidates, representatives of NYUAD and peer institutions, community partners, and UAE entities important to the work of the Office and University
