As Estimation Engineer,you will be responsible for estimating the costs associated with a project. This role is crucial in ensuring that projects are financially viable and within budget. Here are some key responsibilities and skills associated with this role:
Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation: Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope, requirements, and constraints.
- Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for various aspects of the project, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Quantity Takeoff: Quantify and takeoff the required quantities of materials, labor, and equipment needed for construction.
- Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Obtain quotes and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to get competitive prices for materials and services.
- Budgeting: Develop and manage project budgets, including forecasting and tracking costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Value Engineering: Suggest alternative materials or construction methods that can provide cost savings without compromising quality.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit bids for construction projects in response to tenders or RFPs (Request for Proposals).
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may affect project costs and develop contingency plans.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely cost information.
- Cost Reporting: Provide regular reports on estimated costs, actual costs, and any variances between the two.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Quantitative Skills: Proficient in mathematics and able to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost calculations.
- Estimation Software: Familiarity with specialized software such as Plan swift and precontracting software.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and understandable manner.
- Analytical Thinking: Capable of analyzing project details, plans, and specifications to make accurate estimations.
- Negotiation Skills: Able to negotiate prices with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best deals.
- Attention to Detail: Precision is crucial in estimating costs accurately.
- Time Management: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address potential cost-related issues.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is typically required.
