Who is Mastercard Transaction Services

Mastercard Transaction Services (MTS) is the division responsible for the management of the legal entities under which all of Mastercard’s current licensed money transfer services (and in the future other regulated activities) are conducted. The MTS division (and associated MTS shared services functions) are housed under the umbrella of Mastercard Transaction Services and comprise the components which are necessary to support the activities of a licensed payment services firm.

Overview

The VP, Mastercard Transaction Services (MTS) Controller reports to the Assistant Corporate Controller with a secondary reporting line to the MTS CFO. The VP, MTS Controller is responsible for establishing and maintaining a best-in-class controllership for a highly complex, strategically important, Mastercard business. The VP, MTS Controller plays a key role in the growth and diversification of Mastercard’s payment solutions portfolio. The VP, MTS Controller will be responsible for overseeing all areas of the MTS business, implementing any operational changes, and delivering measurable improvements. The VP, MTS Controller possesses strong leadership skills to build and engage teams to optimize and even transform the current structure while utilizing his/her technical skillset to establish and, where necessary, enhance processes and internal controls. A key part of the role is to be able to influence positive change through dialogue partnership with executives, peers as well as direct reports.

Role/Responsibilities

  • Successfully partner with business unit leadership and advise on all accounting related matters on business transactions and accounting/ regulatory standards, including but not limited to revenue recognition, software capitalization and impairment reviews
  • Critical role ensuring controllership functions and processes are working optimally as well as achieving accuracy of legal entity and divisional reporting, e.g., billing, journal entries, revenue accruals, reconciliations, etc.
  • Influence change through strong, collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Business and Finance Executives, Peers, Products and Services business partners, Regional Controllers, GBSC, third party vendors
  • Lead complex cross-functional projects or teams encouraging collaboration among team members and demonstrating expertise and ability to problem solve
  • Transform current state, build, and maintain standardized controllership processes to enable risk-based approaches around the review and analysis of the business unit’s activity; ensuring processes are sustainable for future growth of the business globally
  • Identify opportunities to implement automated solutions to streamline processes
  • Partner with the finance operations team to ensure front-end and back-end controls are implemented to mitigate key risks
  • Lead discussions and provide specific recommendations to senior management on processes and financial statement impacts or positions
  • Lead and oversee compliance activities, as needed (e.g. Mastercard policies, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Operational Risk Management (ORM)) and communicates potential exposures to leadership
  • Interface with external auditors regarding the application of generally accepted accounting principles on certain transactions and matters
  • Coordination with Mastercard Treasury for material banking activity and process improvements
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with statutory financial reporting requirements
  • Periodic review of processes to ensure operationally mitigating risks based on design and the evolution of business processes
  • Management of the outsourcing model to invoice and ensure settlement is processed in line with contracts and framework adhered to
  • Support the Legal entity structure changes with assigned key tasks through collaboration with various stakeholders


All About You

In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position:

  • CA, CPA, or its equivalent with strong USGAAP and IFRS knowledge and experience
  • Dynamic transformational role requiring an individual with strong communication and leadership skills, with an emphasis on financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrated experience leading, motivating, inspiring and developing teams
  • Experience assessing the effectiveness and oversight of operational and financial control implementation; ensures compliance within a diverse organization
  • Experience setting strategy for process improvement initiatives along with developing procedures for implementation
  • Demonstrated successful oversight of the management and resolution of high-risk issues to ensure completeness and efficiency
  • Experience building collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at the global/regional, local, or corporate level
  • Extensive experience delivering presentations and engaging with senior leadership
  • Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Treasury experience beneficial
