Maintenance Assistant

The Role

We’re looking for a hard-working Maintenance Assistant to join our growing team. This position will be responsible to help with whatever basic repair and maintenance tasks require attention. For example, replacing lightbulbs, fixing electrical problems, cleaning and remodelling community spaces, and resolve issues with a positive solution.

To do well in this position, you will need to be capable of completing most basic maintenance and repair tasks without any supervision. That means you must be comfortable with using a wide variety of tools to complete your delegated tasks as well as having the ability to work with specialist external contractors to undertake the task.

Responsibilities

• Perform simple repairs on company equipment
• Use a variety of hand and power tools without supervision
• Repair and maintain basic plumbing and electrical systems
• Assist with the cleaning and remodeling of shared spaces
• Oversee the maintenance of various devices and appliances
• Ensure the necessary stocks of maintenance materials are managed and maintained
• Perform maintenance and light repairs
• Perform routine and basic landscaping on the grounds and plants
• Spot clean facilities when necessary, during the daytime with the cleaning team
• Undertake light installation or carpentering
• Assist tradespeople and delivery men
• Identify and report the need for major repairs
• Managing waste removal and recycling as per our requirements
• Support with asset management and registry logging
• Cleaning, maintaining, organizing and proper storage all required tools and equipment
• Moving/transporting office furniture, furniture, equipment and supplies in/around buildings and grounds
• Change bulbs, locks/keys
• Exterior/interior painting and light repair
• Pressure washing
• Ensure Health and Safety is at the forefront in all repairs undertaken
• Support the wider team to ensure the campus is a safe and healthy environment for study and work
• Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
  
  

Requirements

Post Holder Requirements

The successful candidate will hold:

• Proven experience as a Handyman/Maintenance person - minimum 2 years’ experience
• Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems desirable
• Carpentry Skills for basic repairs
• Understanding of Health and Safety standards
• Good communication ability, with strong interpersonal skills
• Team player - works well as a member of a group
• Well-organized and apt in problem solving
• Attention to detail
• High school diploma or equivalent is high preferred
• Maintain a positive attitude
