Description

Nibras International School is looking for a qualified registered Nurse to join the medical team as soon as possible.

The school nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides health care to students and staff. Performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the medical home or private healthcare provider if necessary. We are looking for a nurse to ensure our children are safe, healthy and happy in school so they can focus on amazing learning.

Key Duties Include

The School Nurse must undertake various tasks, including:

  • Ensure compliance with procedures, protocols, and other instructions provided by the Principal
  • Provide nursing care and physical screening to students; assess students and implement first aid measures for students as needed
  • Assume responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, management, and referral activities for students
  • Implement and record required screening programs; notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated
  • Establish and update health and immunization records in consultation with the School Doctor
  • Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports
  • Administer daily, as required medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's physician
  • Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed
  • Complete preliminary nursing assessments and assist the physician with the child-study physical examinations for students
  • Orient the staff and teach specific medical procedures for the evaluation and maintenance of the medically involved student in the classroom
  • Present, train and maintain appropriate standards regarding contact with, and possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within the school or employment setting
  • Support health education programs in the School
  • Follow procedures for Child Protection and Duty of Care
  • Act as a liaison between the school, home health department professionals, and other community agencies
  • Maintain and ensure accurate records of data in The School Management System

General Duties Include

  • Inform parents when a student visits the school clinic
  • Maintain a log of all students who visit the school clinic, including student name, time in, complaint, time out and time, if the child is sent home
  • Notification to parents in advance for routine check-ups and vaccinations
  • Maintain records of all the medical requirements at the clinic. Stock to be ordered in advance to ensure the availability of all medicines, bandages, equipment’s etc.
  • Ensure the clinic is kept clean and hygienic at all times
  • Ensure the clinic is locked when not in use
  • Ensure all medications are secure and no risk presented to students

Covid Related Duties Include

  • Nurse is responsible for managing the isolation room and following government guidelines for referring and reporting COVID-19 cases (suspected as well as actual) within the school
  • Students are referred to the nurse if they display COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, body aches, fatigue, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, and headache, for further screening as per the DHA guidelines
  • Nurse is responsible for contacting the DHA hotline number 800 342 to report the case
  • If a child shows symptoms when taking the school bus, the bus attendant should immediately inform the Nurse who will coordinate with the Transport Coordinator at the school who should immediately communicate with the school Leadership team and parents/guardians

Position Requirements

Education: Graduate – Nursing Program

Accreditation: Licensed as a registered nurse with Ministry of Health

Experience: A minimum 3 years of nursing experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care.
