Direct Investments executes global direct investments and actively manages a portfolio targeting growth-oriented companies across a range of sectors with strong fundamentals including technology, life sciences, consumer, financial services, energy and industrials & business services. Our primary geographical focus is North America and Europe, with selective investments in Asia.

What Will You Do

The Associate will help build Mubadala’s Direct Investing (primarily private equity) capability, including deal origination and execution activities and support in asset management activities. This is an opportunity to conduct international business in an entrepreneurial environment, within the global Mubadala platform.

Deal Execution

  • Supporting deal sourcing and investment idea generation including identification of target companies and prospective partners
  • Building financial models and conducting various quantitative analyses to assess business performance and to support views on valuation
  • Leading operational activities related to deal execution including various diligence activities and interfacing with industry experts, management teams, and investment partners
  • Developing the investment case / thesis and producing internal materials to present to the Investment Committee
  • Supporting deal execution including negotiation and structuring, and development of term sheets and deal documentation
  • Collaborating efficiently with cross-functional, multi-jurisdictional deal teams (e.g. Legal, Finance, Tax, etc)
  • Build industry networks by attending industry events and conferences

Portfolio Management

  • Supporting business planning activities (short and long-term planning) including strategy and objectives setting, annual budget development and corporate performance measures setting
  • Monitoring existing investments by analyzing and reporting on portfolio companies’ financial results and engaging in value creation initiatives
  • Monitoring and valuing investments through liaising with investment asset managers, reviewing investment performance reporting and updating asset management models
  • Reviewing documentation to ensure content, completeness, accuracy and relevance prior to submission of periodic progress reports, statutory and disclosure requirements
  • Coordinating / preparing internal and external portfolio communication including Investment Committee papers, asset reviews, client / fund updates and investor materials
  • Updating and maintaining internal trackers

What Will You Bring

This role is prioritized for UAE Nationals as part of the Emiratization initiative.

  • A bachelor degree holder in business management, finance, economics, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience with at least 2-3 years of analytical finance / investing experience in investment banking or public / private direct investing in equity / credit
  • Positive attitude that values both professional excellence and integrity
  • Strong business acumen with experience in critically evaluating businesses and investment opportunities
  • Quantitative skills and experience performing financial modelling and analyses (e.g., to assess business performance and support views on valuation)
  • Ability to conduct market / business research, synthesize complex data and clearly communicate insights
  • Ability to train, coach and supervise 1-2 Analysts
  • Strong work ethic and team player who can manage multiple workstreams under time pressure as required
