Job Description

  • Assist patients with non-medical care and other ward-related duties as directed by and under the supervision of the nurse.
  • Respond promptly to patient or family requests for assistance, prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Attend to call bells or alarms in patient rooms and report to the nurse accordingly.
  • Conduct hourly patient rounding, ensuring patient comfort and providing assistance as needed.
  • Receive non-clinical responsibilities each shift from the nurse.
  • Assist nurses with patient hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating, and drinking needs, while observing and reporting changes to the licensed nurse.
  • Clean trolleys before and after patient care and replace all used consumables.
  • Assist nurses in obtaining patient height and weight measurements.
  • Effectively assist nurses in maintaining patient elimination.
  • Know hospital-approved disinfectants and their indications for use.
  • Clean biomedical equipment according to the hospital’s policy.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas, including patient rooms and nursing stations, ensuring surfaces, computers, and phones are cleaned daily and regularly throughout the shift.
  • Collaborate with housekeeping to maintain department cleanliness, including the kids' play area.
  • Check hand sanitizers at the beginning of shifts and notify housekeeping if they need replacement.
  • Liaise with nurses and patients in the OPD setting to support patient satisfaction and provide updates on bed availability and waiting times.
  • Replace sharp containers when 2/3 full or upon expiration, per hospital policy.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the soiled utility room and collaborate with laundry staff if hampers are full, maintaining a record of linen (type and quantity).
  • Collect clean linen from the laundry.
  • Assist in maintaining supply and storage areas, ensuring supply boxes are cleaned regularly or at least monthly.
  • Maintain pantry cleanliness and ensure no unnecessary trays are kept if not needed.
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory.
  • Comply with patient confidentiality per hospital policy.
  • Act as a messenger when required.
  • Escort stable patients via wheelchair or assist nurses with bed transport to and from departments, including Radiology and the operating theater.
  • Accompany discharged patients to the exit point, assisting them into their cars, and transport maternity patients by wheelchair.
  • Assist nursing staff in preparing or cleaning patient rooms for admission or discharge, ensuring all necessary supplies are provided.
  • Report lost or broken items/equipment to the nurse or in-charge after cleaning discharged rooms.
  • Ensure biomedical equipment is cleaned after discharge, returned to the equipment room in good condition, and plugged in.
  • Ensure oxygen cylinders are properly arranged, fixed in their stands, and report when empty.
  • Perform daily checks of departmental rooms and complete the environment checklist.
  • Maintain records of borrowed items and follow up with concerned departments to ensure their return.
  • Transport instruments for sterilization to CSSD after item count by nurses and collect sterilized items from CSSD.
  • Check monthly CSSD sets for expiration dates and report any packaging damage.
  • Ensure departmental curtains are maintained, sent for washing per hospital policy, and replaced as needed, keeping a record of the process.
  • Collect general and stationary items from the store and medications from the pharmacy.
  • Participate in scheduled educational activities.
  • Comply with OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, cooperating with hospital management.
  • Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and responsibilities.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Understand patient safety goals applicable to daily activities.
  • Notify nurses of OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, or concerns.
  • Comply with waste management and transmission-based precautions policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Some High school or Equivalent

Intermediate English Skills Preferred. Spoken Arabic Advantageous.

Demonstrate motivation to work in a health care environment.
